A day in my life (2024)

Hi friends! I would love to do a deep dive on sharing sketch to final art for the latest deepfreeze festival illustration! This festival runs in Edmonton during the winter, getting citizens out to embrace winter activities. A central theme to the festival include themes/dance/food of Metis, Ukrainian and French people.

It’s a new season full of new possibilities and new experiences, which (for me, at least) are bringing about a lot of new feelings as my son Jake has now begun first grade (full-time school! Eeps!).

As promised, today I am doing a showcase of some of my favourite art media that I go to for sketchbook studies and finished art. I will run through a handful of my favourite supplies and include sketchbook photos (with a caption underneath to explain what specifically I used)….

Mark Rutledge is a gifted designer based on Canada’s Yukon Territories, and incidentally one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. I kicked off 2022 by completing a very special project for Mark: painting florals on his drum. This design features dogwood, fireweed, and yarrow, which grow in the forests surrounding his Whitehorse home.
